Happy New Year
Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Well crap, it’s that time of the year again. I was going to try and say something meaningful and witty but I recieved a lovely email from one of my best friends. Mark (AKA Hammer) is one special dude. He’s the big warm teddy bear who sings with me in the band, he coaches my daugher at baseball, and we hang out a lot. He’s funny, loves his wife and 4 girls and has a heart of gold. I’m going to post his letter because it brought a smile to my face and spread sparklies and fuzzies.

Family & Friends!

Well, it’s around this time, almost to the hour really, that I sit down and send an e-mail to all my family & friends and their friends, wishing each and everyone all of the best in the coming year……2010. Cheers!

Let’s try to remind each other in our travels when we meet in 2010 that the warmth of family and friends is what really matters throughout this year and the years that will follow. In good times and in bad…we sincerely look after each other, give our kids the love and support that they all need and listen to each other instead of hearing about each other.

And have a couple, often and daily. Seems to work for me, although some might disagree.

And although we don’t mark this on any day of any given month throughout the year, we all know that each day is a celebration of what we all have. Make a promise that you will take each day and live it to the fullest. Open your hand and grab what life gives us all, even on those days when you just want to clinch a fist and ignore it.

Grey skies eventually clear up. So put on a happy face.

Take care. All of you.

Mark McEachern

I wish all of you the best in 2010. I know it’s gonna rock!

Snippet Saturday-Near Death Experience
Saturday, December 19th, 2009

<%image(20090517-Blog-Header-option2.jpg|400|116|null)%>

Today’s theme is near death experience. I’ve chosen to share an exerpt from my second book in The Jaguar Warrior Series, HIS DARKEST EMBRACE. In this particular scene Skye and Jagger are attacked by one of Jagger’s old enemies and yet the demon Tag has an agenda all his own.

Please be sure to click on the links to the other authors participating this week! They’re located at teh end of this excerpt.

“A demon’s kiss is something everyone should experience at least once in a lifetime.” Its wide mouth opened and the serrated teeth hung heavy in menacingly dangerous rows. They dripped with something akin to saliva, but the liquid was brownish in color.
Skye’s eyes singled in on a drop that clung to the teeth precariously and when it fell away, toward her, she closed her eyes in revulsion, only to cry out in pain as the liquid slid across her cheek.
The burn was intense, the pain sharp, searing.
Skye began to buck wildly, her arms flailing out and when her hand clamped down upon a rock she picked it up, and threw it with all her might at the demon’s head.
It roared in anger and swung its fist toward her, striking her back with an equally vicious blow.
Skye screamed in fury, frustration and plain old fear. Her cheek was on fire and her calf felt like there were a thousand shards of glass ripping through it.
The demon began to lower its head and for that one brief second, Skye could honestly say, she’d never been more terrified in her entire life. It was all encompassing. Immobilizing.
Frantically she clawed at it, trying to arch away but it was no use. Even with her enhanced strength the demon was much too strong.
When its mouth closed over hers, Skye nearly lost her mind. The terror that ripped through her was unlike anything she’d ever experienced.
The demon moaned into her and went still, but the pull that Skye felt deep inside of her intensified. Her skull was on fire and her head pounded. It felt like her very soul was being ripped from her body and the cold that seeped into her veins was sharp, as if she’d been dipped into to the deepest, most frigid part of the Atlantic ocean.
It was liquid ice.
She struggled still, but Skye’s vision began to blur and even though she fought like hell, she began to lose hope.
A god awful cry ripped across the darkness that had entombed her and Skye’s eyes flew open. The cry had come from inside her mind and she knew without a doubt, who it belonged to.
Azaiel.
The demon, Tag, broke away and looked down at her. The fear that hung on its distorted features caught at her.
“I knew not…” The demon mumbled, confused and deathly afraid. It then made a series of choking noises, as if it were being strangled from the inside out. Its body began to shake violently and then it collapsed on top of her.
The weight very nearly crushed her and it was all Skye could do to push the body off of her. She rolled to the side, coughing, shivering and feeling like she’d just died. Dully her eyes landed on Jagger, still in animal form, his jaguar panting from exertion.
At his feet lay the limp body of the female vampire. From what she could see through the thick haze of fog that was slowly descending upon her, the vampire’s head had been nearly torn from its body.
Skye was afraid of losing consciousness. Afraid that the demons kiss would claim her, destroy her. Funny, considering where she was going to end up when she finally sealed the portal.
If she sealed the portal.
The feeling of sadness that washed over her brought tears to her eyes and she struggled to see through them, to focus on Jagger.
The cat jumped over Dani’s body as the mist claimed it and it was Jagger himself that knelt over her. His hands touched her face, fell to her chest and then to the rest of her body.
“Why the fuck didn’t you leave?” His words were laden with a pain she’d never felt before.
His whispered words tore through her and if she could, Skye would have done anything to ease his burden.
She stared up into eyes full of pain. They shimmered as the last of his jaguar left his body, the bright green orbs, now solemn and dark.
“I can’t…” The words came haltingly, “shift after dusk.”
Jagger cradled her closer, shaking his head. “Why didn’t you tell me?” He asked.
Skye closed her eyes and whispered simply, “I didn’t trust you.”
“Of course you didn’t. Why the hell would you?” Jagger’s voice rose and she flinched, though it went unnoticed as his anger kept pace. “Jaguars have been killing your kind for eons.”
He paused then. “How did you?” His eyes fell to the demon at her side, its innards exposed as sulfuric smoke escaped from every orifice. She could tell he was as confused as she was, but when Skye opened her mouth to answer, no words came out.
Her body was so cold and she began to shiver uncontrollably, her teeth chattering against each other in a relentless rhythm. Her stomach was rolling, her head light.
When the seizure hit it was all she could do to keep her sanity.
Jagger shoved his finger down her mouth in an attempt to clear her airway and turned her onto her side. She struggled to breathe through the attack and the panic that punched her hard in the gut.
Was this the end? Is this what it felt like to die by a demons hand?
The cold whisper that wove its way through her body left every single cell aching and on fire with pain.
Her eyes rolled up and away and then she saw nothing.
The only witness to the large man, cradling the shaking woman was a lone wailer monkey that had made its way up from the canopy below. It had been attracted to the violence and dark energy in the air.
It paused, raised itself up on its back legs and then slowly slipped into the night leaving Skye halfway between the dark and the light.
And a jaguar warrior, a man with no religious conviction at all, left holding her tightly, a prayer falling from his lips, the only sound to greet the now silent jungle.

What I do in my spare time
Friday, December 11th, 2009

sheesh, it’s friday night and I’m feeling I should be writing…promised my editor at Samhain I’d have a short all done up and pretty for her by the end of December. And I will. But, tonight I’m just chilling. I’ve been one heck of a busy person lately and it’s hard fitting everything I love to do into the time that I have. With Christmas around the corner, the time suck is that much more intense.

But, this week I actually took the time to read a book. Like a whole book in one sitting. I can’t remember the last time I did that….took some time for me to enjoy words that were written by someone other than me. It was lovely. The book was, What Happens in London, by Julia Quinn btw and it was a very satisfying read.

I also love music…right now my fave songs are Cha Ching by Headly and the new one by Foo Fighters of which the name escapes me right now….dont’ feel like googling…..but in my spare time I do music. Sing with my husband and two buddies and occasionally my son. I love performing and there’s nothing sweeter than the immediate reaction you get from singing in a live situation.

Writing is not like that. You’re alone with your words and truthfully, I’m dreading when my book is finally out there…..kinda stupid really, but once it’s gone my control is no more…..anyway, I’m in a weird mood tonight and thought I’d share some video from a gig we did a while back…..the second one features my son Jake….very proud of him!

This week I’ve decided to include a snippet from my book, HIS DARKEST EMBRACE. The theme is about secondary characters and this one, Declan O’Hara I love. Am hoping to get the chance to write his book in the future! This snippet is small, but shows the smart ass side to his personality that I love! Make sure to click on the links below to blog hop and read lots more snippets! Oh, and he looks like this….

With great stealth the cat moved forward, creeping low amongst the underbrush. he sensed a presence to his left and veered to the right, quickly circling back until a scent reached his nostrils. The cat began to tremble, so great was his excitement, and as he stalked ever closer to his prey, it was harder for the human side to maintain control.

Up ahead a shadow passed before him and with a mighty run and leap his great paws knocked his prey to the ground, landing on top in a rush muscle and bone.

“For Christ sakes Jaxon, get the hell off of me.”

With a powerful push Declan wrangled his way from beneath the heavy animal, his face thunderous. “You weigh a fucking ton. Do that again and I’ll be forced to use dark magick on you. You wanna stay a pussy forever?”

News and New Covers
Friday, December 4th, 2009

Hey all!

Wow, it’s freaking Friday, December 4th and I don’t quite no where the past year went. Like it flew by and that is scary to me. Christmas is only 21 days away and I can honestly say I’ve not done one bit of shopping…Crap, I had better rectify that soon or I’ll be one of those last minute losers with the ‘deer in the headlights.

However I do have something cool to share before I head out to the mall….. A lovely new cover for my upcoming Samhain release, BLACK LEGACY……Blurb beneath!

She’ll make sure he survives the night…even if it costs her heart.

Black Opals, Book 1

Frankie Black is a woman in need of a mission. For a Black Opal—a warrior woman who shifts backward or forward through time in order to, well, save the world—the last six months of downtime have left her bored. Restless. And with a feeling that something is about to hit the fan.

Finally, an assignment: save the life of Dekkar James, an infamous rock god living three hundred years in the past. Tattooed, ruggedly handsome and perfectly imperfect, one look at him and it’s as if her sleeping body springs to life.

One minute Dekkar is having the most mind-blowing sex of his life. The next, goons are breaking down his door, and he’s on the run with a woman who turns from lover to warrior in the blink of an eye.

Dealing with the New Order, operatives who manipulate time without regard for the consequences, is nothing new for Frankie. But this time their tactics have a more personal edge—they’ve found a way to seek out the Opals’ predestined mates.

Unless she can save Dekkar’s life, her future will be the first casualty in a battle for the fate of humankind.

Warning: Contains one hot dude with tattoos, a woman who won’t take no for an answer, steamy sex, an ancient Harley and a little bit of time travel.

Sound cool? I’m very excited to be writing this and am in the process of writing the second story right now! Have a great weekend all! I’ll be busy as we’re having a shin dig on Saturday and well, there is that Christmas shopping!
