Ten Days of Hunger, Day 9
Thursday, March 25th, 2010

The winner of Lauren Dane’s Coming Undone, is Jackie Burris! Email me your deets here at the website.

Now, onto Day 9 and up for grabs is Mistress by Mistake, the debut historical by Maggie Robinson. Check out this beautiful cover and blurb:

<%image(20100324-mistressbymistake_200x300.jpg|200|300|null)%>

Scandal is only the beginning…

Charlotte Fallon let her guarded virtue fall once—and she’s paid dearly for it ever since. She swore she’d never succumb to men’s desires again. But even a village spinster’s life miles from temptation can’t save her from a sister with no shame whatsoever. Or a heart that longs for more, whatever the cost…

Sir Michael Bayard found more than he expected in his bed when he finally joined his new mistress. He’d fantasized about her dewy skin and luscious curves, assured her understanding that what passed between them was mere dalliance. But he didn’t expect the innocence and heat of her response in his arms. Nor her surprisingly sharp tongue once she was out of them…

A few days of abandon cannot undo the hard-learned lessons of a lifetime. Nor can an honest passion burn away the restraints of society’s judgments. Unless, of course, one believes in nonsense like true love…

For a chance at winning this book, let me know what your favourite Historical trope is. The penniless lady and rich lord? Mistaken identities? Arranged marriages?

I like a good fairy tale, beauty and the beast style. Pretty, innocent, rich in heart if not wallet heroine saving wealthy, bitter, emotionally / physically scared neanthrad…ah…aristocrat.

I like historicals with plain, bookish bluestockings that fall in love with lords who don’t fit them (at least, at first glance). A lot of the times it’s the rake, but it doesn’t have to be.

Congratulations, Jackie! I"ve heard good things about Mistress by Mistake. I have to say my favorite historical trope? Friends to lovers. But especially where the heroine is the best friend’s sister :D That whole forbidden agonizing "how could I never see her?" Along with "my friend is going to kill me" is pretty irresistible for me :P

Congrats Jackie – You will lucky dog!!!

My favorite type of historical novels are the mistaken identity theme. Boy meets girl, girl meets boy… they are attracted at first sight, have no idea who they are as far as social status. And things heat up from there.

    Thanks for the awesome giveaways!

Probably my fave historical trope is the estranged marriage one. I love to see already married couples have to either find the love the once had for each other or fall in love with one another for the first time.

    Thanks for the giveaway chance!

Thanks for the book win Juliana, sent in my deets to you by email a while ago..
    {No entry for this one of course just chiming in}
My favorite historical is the one where the lovely lassie is bartered off by dear old dad to the Laird of the Keep in exchange for his protection and power as an ally. They meet and sparks fly from the rebellious forced alliance and in the end after all the trials and tribulations faced by the pair, far from "hating" each other they fall in love and I get my HEA!!

Your widgets are still high and low on my right sidebar and thanks for the fun, too bad it ends on day 10…

I absolutely love the friends turned lovers theme. Love it all the more if they were friends since childhood. Something about friends growing up together and either: falling in love when older or one of them has the unrequited love thing going on just makes me happy.

Thanks for the chance at winning this book!

I’ve actually read stories with arranged marriages and I’ve read historical romance stories which tie the penniless girl who meets the rich rake, in the case of the last book I read it was the childhood friends turned lovers theme.

That theme wasn’t too bad but I personally like the strong heroin saving the tortured hero theme, it’s one of my favorites. I don’t think I’ve read a historical romance with the mistaken identity theme in it yet though.

I’m intrigued by this story definitely, thanks for the chance to win!

Oh, The penniless lady and rich lord, definitely! The Hero always thinks he’s so high and mighty because he has money, only to get his life turned upside down by the Heroine who doesn’t!

I like the arranged or marriage because of being caught in a compromising position. It’s always a treat to read how the couple falls in love.

I like the bluestocking, serious lady and the rakehell rogue plot. The friends that discover romance, usually while trying to help the other find a mate is fun too.

I like them when it’s someone who has to get married and doesn’t want to get married. They see the person they are going to get married to – and fall for them, but before they know that’s who they are to marry! :)

Then they hate the world and will fight tooth and nail to not marry them! :)

My favorite is the Beauty and The Beast story line. A lot can be done with it depending how it is varied. I think the female should be the Beast, there are very few books that have done that.

I’m a fan of mistaken identity stories where it leads to a misunderstanding and the hero and heroine think the worst of each other.
