15 Days to Embrace the Darkside:Day 12 Eve Silver
Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Today we have an amazing book up for grabs by author Eve Silver. Sins of the Flesh is the third in her Otherkin series. Click here to read up on the first two, Sins of the Heart and Sins of the Soul.

Eve also writes dark historicals and writes under the name Eve Kenin.

But today it’s all about the flesh….and sins!

The blood of the Underworld lord of evil runs through soul reaper Malthus Krayl’s veins. Raised to fight for survival and to kill for victory, he can destroy anyone who poses a threat. As he searches for the one responsible for his brother’s murder, he refuses to succumb to any distraction…until his sworn enemy crosses his path and tempts him beyond all reason.

Calliope Kane, a Daughter of Aset, has a personal hatred for soul reapers. Their savage attack against her family still haunts her. But only Malthus can help her find the traitors of her kind, and only she can help him hunt the source of betrayal amongst the reapers. As they unite, the danger grows closer…and the passion between them ignites.

what i love, all the (main) characters will be have a story of their own in a book :)
what i don’t like, if the series become too long and have repeated scene(s) ! Urgh !

I love to see the evolution of the characters, but I don’t like infinite series (when it is clear the series was better finished and the author has nothing valid to add to the story).

I love that I can read more about the world the author has created and the characters. Sometimes I wished that the story would go on forever.

And that´s the part that I hate. Every series has to end at some point. I can deal with a book standing alone and ending that way. But I somehow cannot deal with a series ending. It´s like losing a friend or something. It´s weird :D

I never heard about these books but they sound very interesting.

To answer your question: I always want to know more about the characters, what happened next, etc. But sometimes I don’t like what happened next or I have trouble remembering all the details from previous 5 books and it’s hard to keep up with the story especially when significant time passed between the books. So it’s love and hate relationship between me and the series

I like seeing the couples from previous books, assuming it’s a series with a different couple each time- it’s like an extended epilogue :D

In a series with the same couple, I like to see how they grow

Got these books on my TBR list!
What I love about series most is the character development and watching the characters grow/fall apart based on what happens to them in the books. The thing I hate about series is not knowing there is going to be a conclusion. Some authors will say there are going to be X many books in this series and that is very comforting, but when there isn’t light at the end of the tunnel I get frustrated. I like it when authors end a series, but do spin offs to develop other characters or story ideas. I love the ride, but I do need to get off at some point .

It is nice to see the development of character and storyline and how each charactes adds to that story. It is also fun to read an on-going series and see some mention of previous characters and what they are up to!

On the negative side, sometimes series are so convoluted that it makes it hard to follow each story arc and previous character mentioned, especially if there are numerous books and there is a long gap between said books.

I have a few Eve Silver book in my to be read pile and very much enjoyed her book His Dark Kiss.

What I like about series stories is really getting to know and enjoy their adventures. What I can’t stand about them is when there is no continuity between them or losing the original characters completely.

The series has a lot more of twists and the story is more interesting ,filled with a lot of emotions and events…
Also ..in a series you can understand better the world that the author created.

I love revisiting couples from previous books in the series, but I don’t love what a series does to my wallet. :( You have to keep reading them, you can’t just stop!

I love series because when I fall in love with characters I always want to read more. Sometimes I feel like there is more that the characters can do or experience before they have a happy or unhappy ending. The only thing I do not like about series is anxiously waiting for the next book to come out. When I am hooked, I want the next book right away.

I love series because the world building can be so much more detailed, because the details are spread throughout a couple books instead of crammed into one and overloading the reader. The only bad thing I can think of is how very often (for me) the first book in a series is always my favorite, and the next books don’t always live up to my high expectations. But every series is different. :)

In a series I like how as a reader we sometimes get to see the stories of other characters within a world, like Larissa Ione’s Demonica series or how we can also see the growth of a continuing relationship like in Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series.

My favorite part of a series is reading about characters that are introduced in the first book and I also love to hear updates on previous couples in later books.

I love getting to know the characters and see where they go throughout the series! When you have a series you love, it’s nice to see how things end up later for the couples. You invest so much time in getting to know them that it’s almost sad to see them go at the end of the book. A series gives you the chance to visit them again and see how they impact the characters around them!

I love to meet secondary characters again and read their story…honestly, I’ve more series on my bookshelf then stand-alones and there are about 20 series I currently read and I’ve the feeling every day are coming more and more…

What I like about series is that you get to know most of the characters little by little and you keep getting updates on them in the next books.

What I love about books in a series is you can continue on the journey with that character or characters and watch them grow and develop. Or you can see other side characters from the first book have their own HEA.
What I don’t like is waiting for the next book in a series to come out. It’s agonizing. And then the end of a series is always sad of course but I love when an author does a spin-off so you can catch glimpses sometimes of your favorite characters in new books.

I like to see how the characters grow throughtout a series. And what I dont like is when a series gets too long and some scenes may get repetative.

I love books in a series because there are either the same recurring characters that grow and change during the series, or there are main characters for each book with recurring characters that run through the series. Either way, I get to know and love the characters and follow them through several books. The thing I don’t like is that you usually have to wait six months to a year between books. It’s awesome when they’re released back-to-back.

What I love about a series is reading about characters after their HEA; it’s like visiting with them.

What I don’t like is the wait between books, especially if there is a mystery that won’t get resolved until the last book. Also, if the series run too long (all the siblings, parents, cousins, friends, coworkers, etc. had their HEAs) then I may lose interest.

I love series books. I love that are we are able to see a continuation of the previous HEA. We see where they are now and what they have been up to. Also, I like being able to see them through the point of view of the new characters we are reading about. For me it’s kind of like catching up with old friends or family that I haven’t seen. It makes me kind of giddy to see old characters.

I have a love hate relationship with series. I love them because the story continues and a series is able to explore more facets in a relationship then just one book can. More characters are introduced and sometimes we get to see a secondary romance. In other series we often get to see past characters from other books make a reappearance and we get to see how their lives are after their own book ended. It’s like they never left and sometimes we are introduced to a character that will later on have their own book and are able to see more of this character as they pull us into their own story. Now, reasons I hate series. They are expensive trying to keep up with and sometimes when the next one comes out a year later I find I need to pick up past books so I can reaquaint myself before I get the new book. I often read several books inbetweeen release dates and need to brush up, so it’s also time consuming. More often then not I pick up a book, find out it’s a series and the last in the series and depending on how connected all the books are I have to decide to either read the series backwards or not read it and wait till I catch up. For anyone I’m friends with on Goodreads will see this a lot, I often read series backwards. I have some books in my room right now waiting till I have the money to get the rest of the series ’cause those are needed to understand the book I own. It’s my bad habbit to always pick out a series at the book store and find it’s become hard to find a stand alone book. Some books I pick up I can look on the inside cover and see where it’s at in the series, but not all are listed and I don’t figure it out till I bring it home.

I love series that allow the reader to see the characters grow and change over time, such as Laurell K. Hamilton’s Anita Blake series. I also love series that you can pick up at virtually any point and still enjoy the book even if you have not read the previous books in the series. Both Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark and Gena Showalter’s Lords of the Underworld series are great examples of series that can be read out of order.

Conversely, I dislike series that require the reader to read each book in order in order to be able to understand what is happening in the current book.

I like spending more time with the characters who I have come to know and who I want to know more about. If the setting is something I am interested in, then I love re-visiting the setting too. There really isn’t anything I don’t like…..except when a series I love (and characters I consider friends) ends….that’s always a bummer.

I really like seeing my favorite characters from previous books or being intrigued by future characters. However, I don’t like it when too much of the story is focused on the past characters who already had their book, and the main hero and heroine of the book I’m reading don’t get enough page time.

Well I generally don’t read books that are in a series. The only ones I have really read are the Argeneau series, and the Dark Ones seires. I love that you can find the characters in later books. (In these two series basically each book is dedicated to 1 main male & female). What I don’t like is that it seems like some of these people should have another book, and some characters that I really like I don’t read about much later which makes me sad because I want to know what has happened to them.

Well, I love series because I get to follow the character and get more involved with them. I love being able to see what happens to them and the relationships they form. You get more of a bond then you would with a single book. Plus, the worlds become even more well established. So, yes, I definitely love my series!! I usually can’t get enough of them matter of fact.

I love when an author writes a series because it feels like the book does not have to “cram” in all the information, romance, action to create the happy ending that statifies everyone desires and questions.
Also- it seems great when a series is created because even if the world the author comes up with may not be different then the one we live in now- it still allows for even the side charectors to get their stories told too! (Or even find their own love!)
